Here is the weekly crime report dated 20/09/14 to 28/09/14 for the Romsey Rural area from Hampshire Constabulary:
TRAVELLERS ~ One caravan and two vehicles were reported to be acting in a suspicious manner, on Top Green in Lockerley. It now appears the same caravan is now on camped the grass verge A27 Sherfield English. No reports
BELBINS ~ Theft of vehicle – between the 22/09/14 and the 25/09/14 person/s unknown have stolen a silver Mitsubishi L200 truck index number **W724WGP** with off road tyres from a business premises. Police enquiries are on going, any sightings please call 101, reference number 44140347055
SHERFIELD ENGLISH ~ Theft 26/09/14 1715 hrs the aggrieved left two petrol cans beside his car on the grass verge whilst carrying out some general maintenance. On his return to the car near by, he noticed the petrol cans had disappeared, a witness saw a vehicle near by thought to be ablue 5 door saloon, part index number **XER** possibly a 54 plate.
WEST TYTHERLEY ~ 24/09/14 a white ford transit van part index number **LJC** possibly a 09 plate, seen parked up on farm land; two males were seen with dogs in the area, possibly poachers.
Buckholt – Theft from vehicle – 27/09/14 between 1440 hrs and 1640 hrs. The aggrieves car was parked in a country lane. On the owners return they discovered the rear window had been smashed and a hand bag stolen together with a number of personal items from with in.

Hampshire Trading Standards have been made aware of telephone calls offering wall and loft insulation. We would suggest that residents do not show interest to any offers to quote or agreement to works, following this type of contact.

Trading Standards would advise consumers not to agree to work that is instigated as a result of a cold call or via a leaflet drop. Consumers should obtain at least 3 written quotes from reputable businesses or traders who are either members of the Hampshire County Council Trading Standards Buy With Confidence Scheme or a recognised trade association.
Members of the Buy With Confidence scheme are fully audited to ensure their trading practices are legal, honest and fair. All members have been checked for trustworthiness and compliance with consumer protection laws. Traders who agree work at the home of an individual or at a place other than their usual business premises are required by law to provide consumers with a Notice of Right to Cancel, which gives consumers a 14 day cooling off period. Work should not commence until this period has ended, unless written agreement is obtained from that consumer beforehand.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HEATING OIL TANKS ARE SECURE AND REGULARLY CHECKED – Now the winter months are coming this is the time when home owners re order heating oil, making your tank more of a target. Please do not hesitate to make contact with us if you require any crime prevention advice.

Recently the rural have been targeted in a number of shed and garage breaks please make sure you sheds and equipment are secure.
Record serial numbers on tools and equipment, take photos or mark your property so it can be indentified, the police recover a large amount of stolen property and are not always able to return the property back to the rightful owner.
